How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal is an effective treatment for the permanent reduction and elimination of unwanted hair. A laser is used to apply heat to the hair follicle, thus loosening the hair and disabling the cells responsible for growing new hair. At the minimum, you will see a 10 to 20% reduction of hair each time you have a treatment. The ultimate result is no more hair!
What Is the Best Treatment Plan?
A total of six to eight treatments, every four to six weeks, are recommended to achieve the best results. Depending on the treated area or areas, consistent visits are crucial for success because treatment must be timed with your hair-growth cycle. In some cases a topical anesthetic is applied 15 to 30 minutes prior to treatment to minimize discomfort.
How to Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal?
Two to three days prior to each treatment, you should shave the treated area to allow some “stubble” of hair to be exposed. It is also important that you do not pluck, wax, or use depilatories during the course of your laser hair removal treatments.
What You Can Expect after Treatment
There is no downtime with laser hair removal. After the treatment you should expect a mild-moderate sunburn-like sensation for up to 24 hours. You may also notice small bumps for up to 24 hours. You may or may not see your hair fall out immediately after treatment, but the hair will shed out in as little as one to three weeks after treatment. The only limitations after the treatment: No shaving of the treated area for 48 hours; and no active or medicated products (e.g., Retin-A and alpha-hydroxy acids) should be applied to the treated area for at least 48 hours. |
