What is IPL/Fotofacial Therapy?
Fotofacial Therapy is a non-ablative laser treatment, which means the laser preserves the outer layer of skin by working within the deeper layers. Through the process of heat, the intense pulsed light (IPL), eliminates the cells responsible for pigmented lesions and redness in the face. It also stimulates collagen, which results in reduced pore size, tightening if the skin and reduction in fine wrinkling. The ultimate result is smoother/cleaner looking skin with no recovery or downtime.
What Is a Typical Treatment Plan?
A total of five to six treatments, every three to four weeks is recommended to achieve the best results. There is no downtime and discomfort is minimized with the use of a topical anesthetic applied 15-20 minutes prior to each treatment.
What Can You Expect After the Treatment?
The treated area will appear like a mild sunburn for up to 24 hours. Any areas with freckling will appear darker for up to 7 days. Make-up can be applied immediately following the treatment. The only limitations following treatment are no strenuous exercise for the remainder of the day, no “active” or “medicated” products (e.g., Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy acids) on the treated area for at least 48 hours after treatment. |
