What You Can Expect during Treatment
Each session takes 10 to 20 minutes to perform. Discomfort is minimized with the application of a topical anesthetic 15 to 20 minutes before the treatment. If you are getting your lip area treated, a local anesthetic similar to the one performed by a dentist is highly recommended. You may develop pin-sized bruise dots, which are minimized by the application of ice before and after the injections. You can also avoid bruising by refraining from aspirin for 72 hours before your treatment, and minimizing alcohol consumption the night before.

What You Can Expect after Treatment
The treated area may appear pink for up to 48 hours. Most patients will experience swelling for up to 72 hours*. This is normal, and will resolve on its own. The results typically can last anywhere from 4 to 8 months. The effects will appear at their best in about 3 to 7 days. If you think the amount injected is not enough, wait for at least 2 weeks after the treatment to determine if a touch-up is warranted.
